An engineering student at Queensborough Community College in New York, Kelvin Henry has also been in a wheelchair since he was shot when trying to retrieve a stolen bicycle in 2004. Although it was years before his design came to fruition, Henry had a spark of an idea for a new take on the sewing machine pedal. Thanks to the support and encouragement of professors at his college, he was able to make a 3D printed version of the pedal which transfers the weight from the foot to his arm so that he can operate the sewing machine easily.
