The Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME) has surveyed parents about how they perceive the place of manufacturing jobs in their children's future. What the survey found is that parents still operate under the older industrial model of manufacturing jobs that revolve around dangerous machines, dirty work environments, and low pay. With the advent of new 3D printing technologies, we see that the new manufacturing environment is cleaner, greener, and better paying. Furthermore, the work is challenging and exciting -- far from the rote movements of the factory assembly line.
