Students who have not yet thought about or created their entries for the Star Trek Replicator Challenge may want to watch a few episodes of the original iconic series to get the creative juices flowing. This looks like a lot of fun, and offers a chance for young designers to make a mark on the future of space travel as they are challenged to create a non-edible, food-related item to help astronauts—and those perhaps living and working in space by 2050—eat nutritiously and conveniently. Items such as hardware for creating and cultivating food, as well as tools to eat and dispose of meals are suggested as broad concepts for inspiration. Entries are allowed throughMay 9, with the winners announced on July 5th. Those who win will receive a wonderful trip to NYC with other prizes and finalists will have 3D printers donated to their schools, along with more exciting prizes.
