Getting a new drug to the market is a long process, but today Aprecia Pharmaceuticals announced that their 3D printed epilepsy drug, SPRITAM, is finally commercially available. The drug, which was granted FDA approval last August, is a form of the anti-seizure drug levetiracetam. Many patients, particularly those with epilepsy, have difficulty swallowing pills, but SPRITAM dissolves instantly with a sip of liquid, thanks to its porous structure - a structure that was only made possible with 3D printing. The drug is the first 3D printed prescription medication to be approved by the FDA and released to the US public. Read more at 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/125522/aprecia-epilepsy-drug/
