Researchers at Rice University are enjoying the benefits of 3D printing triplefold as they are reaping the rewards of a 3D printing system they have been working on since 2013. Their OpenSLS platform is an SLS, open source 3D printer meant for the lab environment. They were able to create it for about 40 times less than equipment they would have needed to purchase, and they are able to create high-resolution, complex models. With this platform and materials they are able to make specialized 3D lattices which should prove useful in biomedical applications where they can be used as templates for engineering new bone.
