While the subject matter may be rather heavy, Kenosis, 2015 by Yardena Kurulkar, is certainly thought-provoking and offers a prime example of how artists today are using 3D printing as a strong new tool to create visual and emotional impact. Kurulkar just won the 64th Blake Art Prize for Kenosis, taking home $35,000 for exploring the concepts of life and death, making a terracotta, 3D printed replica of her own heart, allowing it to degrade under water and show off the eventual erosion of life—using the organ that forms first in the human body as her centerpiece.
