Orthopedics company Zimmer Biomet has announced that they have received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for their Unite3D Bridge Fixation System, which utilizes a 3D printed matrix to hold bones together for ankle fusion, or arthrodesis, surgeries. The device, which replaces the screws, plates and staples traditionally used for such procedures, features Zimmer Biomet's proprietary OsseoTi material, a porous, biocompatible metal that mimics the structure of cancellous, or spongy, bone.
