Researchers at the University of California San Diego have developed what may be the most promising 3D printed liver tissue yet. The tissue, printed through a novel method of bioprinting developed in the lab of Dr. Shaochen Chen, more closely mimics the structure and function of a real human liver than any other liver model so far. This could be a major development for pharmaceutical testing, and the team hopes that it may lead to the eventual 3D printing of patient-specific organs.
