There is very promising news on the horizon for men suffering from infertility, and for couples who want to start families the natural way. With a concept that makes incredible sense, researchers from the Institute for Integrative Nanosciences at IFW Dresden are working to help healthy sperm swim, solving the problem of low motility. In fabricating small metal helices that are controlled by magnetics, they are able to motorize the sperm with ‘spermbots.’ The researchers 3D printed the spermbots on a Nanoscribe Photonic Professional GT system and have had great luck in the lab with this project so far, but they state that much more research is needed before they will be able to try their spermbots out on humans.
