Nike Awarded 2 Major 3D Printing Patents

Pretty interesting. Here is a thorough look into 2 key patents Nike was awarded just a few weeks ago concerning the 3D printing of footwear, and apparel:

It appears that Nike is looking towards 3D printing as a main manufacturing technology of the near future. They have already been using the technology for prototyping and some small parts of shoes. You thoughts?

Nike has always been one of those companies that didn't really need tech, but stayed on top of it anyway. Seems like it may be finally paying off with this as well as their sports bands.

This has opened the flood gates to all sorts of innovative approaches to manufacturing. I'm sure Rebok, New Balance, Etc are also working on things behind the scenes.
