Affordable 3d printer for noobie?

Hi guys, I am new to this 3D printing stuff but I find it fascinating. Is there an affordable 3D printer out there for people like me, or has the market not yet reached a "house hold item" level yet?

By default, I would advise the Printrbot play but the lulzbot mini may be good too.
But most important is ... ... What do you intend to do with it ? Cause we can't do much without knowing that.

I wouldn't advise a delta machine if you're a pure beginner with no technical affinity and little time to spend on that.

define 'affordable'.

The cel robox is probably the current best plug'n'play machine around.
It's around £800 (if you shop around) - which might or not be affordable, depending on your definition of 'affordable' :-)

It has a lot of customer friendly features incluing. Programmable filament spools. The printer reads the spool and knows what settings to use. Has a fine nozzle for detail and a larger nozzle for infill.

I was once told by a 3d scanner manufacturer that their handheld scanners were affordable. I asked how much and he said £20,000.
Affordable -means very different things to different people :-)
