The Head Health Challenges were started by the NFL, Under Armour, GE, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology for the purpose of finding new ways to better diagnose, treat and prevent traumatic brain injuries. The third challenge, which focuses on developing new materials for protective headgear, announced its first-round winners yesterday. One of the winners was a team consisting of researchers from Cardiff University and Charles Owen Inc, who have been developing a 3D printed, elastic, shock-absorbing material that can be customized for multiple purposes.
