The all-new Ford GT and the new Ford Mondeo Vignale have both benefitted heavily from the use of 3D printed prototypes. The 2017 GT used prototypes to refine and perfect the square-shaped F1-style steering wheel with integrated transmission paddle-shift controls and driver controls, a pair of lightweight structural components on the upward-swinging doors and the door controls. Engineers and designers used 3D printing to perfect the hexagonal design in the grill on the new Ford Mondeo Vignale. They also 3D printed prototypes for the nickel alloy wheels, dual chrome exhausts, the Vignale badges and all of the car’s exterior ornamentation. Ford is also making thousands of their digital assets available through the new Ford 3D Store and over on Turbosquid for download.
