This weekend at the 2015 New York Maker Faire NASA and America Makes announced the three winning teams for the first phase of their 3D Printed Habitat Challenge. The winning design was for ICE HOUSE, a structure made from Martian Ice, Team Gamma took second place with their modular base concept combined with robots that 3D print structures using the surface of the planet and LavaHive took third place with a design that used inflatable habitats, a repurposed EDL shell and 3D printed corridors and secondary structures. Phase Two of the challenge is now open for registration, teams are tasked with fabricating full size versions of their concept.
