A traveling exhibit of mummies from both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Chile is giving visitors a peek at what is inside the outer coverings of these preserved bodies. Thanks to a CT scanner that was loaned to the Field Museum in Chicago, curators were able to gather a great deal of information about what was contained inside of the ancient bundles and sarcophagi without having to open them and possibly cause irreparable damage. That data was then converted into 3D printed models made from resin that give museum goers a chance to get hands on with a mummy in a way that would be otherwise impossible.
