In 2013, a group of Stanford University students launched a 3D printed capsule containing a GoPro camera and other photographic equipment in a weather balloon, hoping to capture some fantastic images of the Earth--in particular, the Grand Canyon--from space, as well as to obtain data pertaining to a doctoral project. They lost contact with the balloon's GPS and were unable to retrieve the data, until, two years later, the balloon and its equipment were found in the desert and returned. See the spectacular footage the students retrieved over at 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/96209/3d-printed-capsule-returned/
