    3D Printing Show Components

When Rachel Noon started experimenting with the idea of 3D printing uppers for footwear in 2009, the technology simply wasn't ready to produce what she needed. However, with the refinement of FDM printing techniques and the introduction of a wide variety of increasingly flexible filaments, this is an idea whose time may now be on the horizon. Noon does not see the technology as being ready to replace more traditional uppers production for footwear but sees some clear advantages in terms of prototyping and demonstration. She's not ready to throw in the towel just yet and is helping contribute to the questions that need to be answered in order to move this technology from prototyping to production in yet another area.
