Frank Nguyen was constantly worried about how his mother was faring during the day as he was off at school. As a sixth grader, he was distracted from his studies by the usease he over his mother's health issues, and as his mother slowly lost sight in one eye, lost a share of her sight in the other, began to have hearing problems and finally, cardiac problems such as a dangerously irregular heartbeat, Nguyen began to consider what he could do. Ultimately, he built a device as part of at a summer project at Ryerson University, a heart rate alert monitoring device he calls HelpWear HeartWatch, and he says he hopes it will not only help his mother, but people around the world with problems like hers.
