Disney Research 3D Prints Objectss With Varying Elasticity Among Single Object
The Disney Research Team is busy wowing us in 3D with their latest materials research. Focusing on producing 3D printed objects that exhibit varying degrees of elasticity within one object, they explain how they used a new algorithm to design microstructures to work with metamaterials in allowing for examples such as the 3D printed bear with articulated joints, then 3D printing bunny with one soft leg and one rigid, as well as the 3D printed armadillo and robot which also demonstrate unique variances. Isn't this something that Objet poly-jet machines have been able to do for years and years? They probably didn't think to print a bunny with one soft leg, but they pioneered multi-durometer materials and have numerous examples of soft and hard components in a single print.
