    THere must be a way?

    Okay i am prototyping a product using a 3d printer, and i am doing a type of switch mechanism, and this side has to be flat on the bed, but it has to indent in abit, about 1cmx3cm and 2mm thick, but as you can see because its hovering it comes out a mess, how can i fix this? Thank you very much! I really hope you can help

    I'm using an ultimaker 2, 3mm PLA, printing on normal quality

    Why do you need the indent? Making things has always been about designing to suit the manufacturing process.

    Because i need a flush switch mechanism on the back of the case, and theres no other way i can do it.

    ah, so this is like a mains selector voltage switch where you don't want any chance of it being changed accidentally.

    Well I think you will have to use support and cut it off afterwards. Normally a dent like that you will make hemispherical because the printer will cope with that but in your case it has to be flat so support it is unfortunately.

    I suppose there is a reason you can't just flip it over.

    should bridge that. I've bridged a 5 cm gap without any issues.

    Give it 4-5 layers, and remove the first layer that's slightly rough with rotary tool (dremel type).

    Or use support - but I don't like support :-)

    Thanks mjolinor can you still use supports when its only being raised by 2mm?

    I find it hard to believe that cura is that crap at bridging.
    And aren't ulti2's supposed to be the dogs bollocks of 3d printers.

    Something weird there.
