Supercomputer designer and part-time tinkerer, Chris Fenton, shared his take on The Difference Engine-inspired PixelWeaver. It’s a machine something like the Kinotrope that is featured in the novel by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, a book to which the steampunk aesthetic owes a great deal. PixelWeaver is a fully mechanical, punch-card driven, bit-mapped display. It’s large panel is made up of small cubes or pixels that are 3D printed; the cubes are spun and arranged by a hand crank. Fenton’s device is featured on MakerBot Thingiverse as well as his own website. More details on this awesome gadget can be found here: http://3dprint.com/71416/pixelweaver-3d-printed/

Below are some images of the PixelWeaver. Pretty cool setup, and certainly quite an intricate design. Let us know your thoughts!
