3D printing has been bringing back into vogue the traditional lithopane, with the capability to translate any photo into a 3D printable STL file for a lithopane easily available. Ben Malouf, Creative Manager for Aleph Object, Inc., which is behind LulzBot 3D printers, was on hand at last week's 3D Print Week NY, running booths for LulzBot and showing off his impressive new creations. Malouf has created a series of incredible 3D printed, super thick, glow-in-the-dark lithopanes that use a 40mm thickness instead of the more standard 4mm. The results are almost optical illusions, showing different views from different angles, and look amazing when backlit.
