Australian twin brothers, Nick and Chris Fryer, are intimately familiar with the challenges posed by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but the pair use 3D printing technology to ease the issues they face in daily life. When confronted with a dismal prognosis of DMD at the age of eight, the pair weren't expected to live past age 21, but now 37 years old, they're the oldest people with DMD in Australia. While they need to wear ventilators controlled by movements of their mouths and fingertips all day, every day, the pair don't let that stop them from designing and building novel tools with 3D printing. From robots to wheelchair accessories, the pair work through their Melbourne Eastern Suburbs Hackers, a group Chris formed to creating technologies to enable people with disabilities, and they're working hard to spread the news about how 3D printing can help through the group's blog.
