3D Systems has been part of another great medical outcome—and this time after being involved in creating a 3D printed model of a toddler’s heart. The 20-month-old child was experiencing issues in both breathing and swallowing due to heart vessels obstructing and compressing his airway. Surgeons were able to use the 3D model to navigate the 2.5 hour delicate surgery, and the toddler is not both breathing and swallowing comfortably. Another benefit of the 3D model, of course, is also for use in demonstrating to patients and patients’ families what is going on in the body and how doctors will proceed.
