Cosplay and 3D printing seem to be made for one another (pun intended). Renee Ammon, from Idaho, is a professional seamstress who loves cosplay and creating movie-related costume pieces, but has found sewing difficult while chasing an 18-month-old around the house. Digital design, though, allows for the creation of cosplay and costume pieces without worrying about mess or a toddler getting into pieces -- and Ammon has been hard at work creating beautiful replicas of pieces seen in Star Wars movies. Ammon often uses Adobe Illustrator for technical drawings, then SketchUp for the virtual model, before exporting her models to Shapeways for printing. Some well-known props from the various Star Wars films that Ammon has created include the Padme Tatooine Cloak Clasp, Padme Aqua Nightgown Headband, Princess Leia Hoth Rank Badge, and Padme Peacock Brooch. She's also working on pieces from Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.
