3D Printed Robot Army

Sarah Petkus and Mark Koch wanted a robot army, so they built their own. It might sound like the startup of an unlikely sci-fi movie, but instead it's the actual call to action behind Light Play, the duo's 3D printed robot army. The delta style robots respond to action in their surroundings (like at last year's Maker Faire in the Bay area, where 30 of the bots picked up on movements caught via a Kinect sensor) and move around accordingly, giving a person the impression they're leading a full army of robots. With that proof-of-concept showing the robots worked, Light Play launched Robot Army Starter Kits in a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $25K. Now, gearing up for the San Mateo Maker Faire this May, the robot army will feature 84 robots all moving in unique ways to the same stimulus.
