Daisy Fit Forms Launches Kickstarter for 3D Printed Breast Prostheses

Daisy Fit Forms has indeed set out to revolutionize the world of breast prosthetics for hundreds of thousands of women who have survived breast cancer and undergone mastectomies. The Daisy Fit Forms team developed an app which is available for free download by uses who can take an image of their breast and then upload it so that the 3D printed mold can be made for the prosthesis, which is then handcrafted into a lightweight, customized—and affordable form. They may want to read about this.....

As we saw earlier this morning with Daisy Fit Forms' Kickstarter campaign, 3D printing technology can be used to enhance the lives of breast cancer survivors. German RepRap announced today that they are also bringing these arenas together, as Brannenburg, Germany-based Anita Dr. Helbig GmbH has been utilizing the X400 3D printer in order to save both time and money in creating molds for breast prostheses. While the manual mold-making process previously took weeks, ultimately creating prostheses that would not be a great fit, the use of 3D printing now brings the timing down and customization levels up. What previously took around two weeks can now be done in only hours, and saves about 50% in development costs.
