New Trove Platform Embraces 3D Designing, Sharing & Printing of Jewelry

Brian Park of Trove wants to make 3D printing and design accessible to anyone, regardless of experience or ability, and he says the online tool will allow users to discover, share, and customize 3D printed jewelry designs. Users can browse through a variety of design templates and an then use an intuitive, in-browser customization process to personalize their jewelry. Once the design is complete, the jewelry can be 3D printed in materials from stainless steel to 18K gold, and any design created on Trove will become a part of the Trove social stream. Park says that feature is aimed at letting users explore and discover designs customized by others, and then makes changes to those designs as well. Trove's online community, and some questions.

I like the idea. There is definitely a gap in the market for semi-bespoke jewellery as an online community service.

However, I have to ask about the question of royalties. What do the designers get for people choosing to produce their jewellery? They're not just posting models for others to use for free, are they?

Likewise, who owns the designs themselves once they're posted?

    Regards,
