    Piranha FX All-in-One 3D Printer & More

The Kickstarter campaign initiated by New Wave Automation promises to result in support for commercial production of the new Piranha Fx all-in-one making machine. The Piranha Fx combines CNC capabilities, laser engraving, and 3D printing all in one place. Using the included Vectric software and a touch screen interface, the machine significantly expands the output options available without having to purchase separate devices for each. Priced at just under $3,000 this makes the Piranha Fx quite competitive with other desktop printers and the Kickstarter campaign reveals the appeal this has with the funds raised being nearly half way to the goal with another 40 days still left. More details on this new machine can be found here: http://3dprint.com/45814/piranha-fx/

The regular Piranha CNC machine looks to be a good deal:

Looks like a solid design. A moving gantry takes up half as much space too as the usual budget moving table. A fixed table also makes vacuum hold down easier to design. Undescribed so far is what the gantry risers are made of. Looks like solid acrylic, which is pretty stiff actually, but if I was doing DIY I'd use fiberglass G10, sourced cheaply on Ebay over time.
