Pancakes in the UK aren't eaten for breakfast. Pancake day, otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday, is when people eat pancakes in the evening. It has it's origins in a pre-Christian, pagan winter/spring ritual where eating the pancakes was meant to imbue people with some of the qualities of the sun.
