Jeff Johnson, with more than 20 years of experience in the design field, has seen the ups and downs of the prototyping process, especially as it concerns 3D design. While about two decades ago a re-do on a 3D prototype required significant amounts of time to re-design, create new castings, and then use them...not to mention extremely high costs. With the use of 3D design programs and 3D printing becoming more within the reach of small businesses, in-house iterations are more possible, allowing these companies to compete more successfully with larger firms.
