Austria's VirtuMake is one of that country's main go-to 3D printing service centers, offering scanning, modeling, and printing using 3D technologies. They were recently contacted by Austria's most famous theatrical venue, the Burgtheater, which wanted to commission a detailed bust of the likeness of one of their actors. VirtuMake went to work on this deadline-driven project, creating a bust of actor Peter Simonischek, using an Artec Eva 3D scanner to capture the actor's likeness, merging it with a Roman bust, hollowing the design, and printing it in such a way that it could be illuminated (thanks to i.materialise's transparent resin). The completed bust has a transparent head, lit by LEDs, and white lower portion, looking almost as though it was carved from ice.
