Sophie Kahn's artwork directly addresses technology's inability to fully capture life, and 3D printing plays a critical role getting her work from the scanner to the gallery. Working with a 3D scanner, which she claims always renders imperfect scans, she then manipulates the scans further in design programs, then 3D printing molds that she casts (often in ancient bronze) to create her sculptures. Haunting reminders of the "poetics" of technology's failures, she captures all of the flawed, almost decaying, imperfections of the digital scanner. Kahn has been widely exhibited internationally, and her work can be seen in two current and upcoming exhibits: one in New York and one in Pennsylvania.
