French maker and recent 3D enthusiast Nicolas Huchet lost his hand in an industrial accident 12 years ago. Since then, his frustrating experiences with insufficient prosthetic devices have compelled him to explore the possibilities of 3D printing, open-share culture, and crowdfunding to create not only a broadly-functioning myoprosthetic hand, but a worldwide network dedicated to developing prosthetic devices for people who don’t have access to such devices because of the high cost of the more efficient ones. Huchet’s current prototype of a myoprosthetic hand can be seen on his website, bionico.org.
