The Chinese University in Hong Kong has been conducting a study using 3D printing which may encourage many patients with bowed legs to look into having the condition corrected. Using 3D printing technology to make copies of the bones and their deformities, surgeons are able to use the 3D prints as models for making specific instruments to correct the bowed legs. They are able to perform surgery, inserting pins and screws to correct the condition. Patients, four of whom have been in the study overall, were up and out of the hospital shortly after — and walking — with just one more surgery later to take out the pins.
