True but if you've ever used Solidworks, SpaceClaim, DesignSpark or even Sketchup, Blender is a joke for CAD at least in the mechanical sense. If you have the coin to spend SpaceClaim can't be beat....

Guess it really depends on what you're after. I work a lot with STL's, scan data and reverse engineering in a "CAD" environment. Free tools just can't pull that off.

I use SpaceClaim and it's awesome. Doesn't come cheap though like most higher end packages.

Get a Printrbot Simple Metal

Never seen the SLS-3 but as far as I know the only difference is the newer CCD and believe me, they charge a mega premium for their camera and I don't see the value in it personally.

I bought the David 4 software, their calibration panels, purchased the same projector they use K132, bought my own industrial CCD camera (pretty much the same one they use), used a v-slot linear...

So they want another $100 to fix a hot end that was junk from the start on an already $3k printer. Hum...

Glad I'm not a zebrafish embryo. But it's not surprising that someone has come up with a study that says 3D printed parts are toxic. Gives them something else to go after.

What file types does their software output? .obj? Also, can you scan part of an object and still output a mesh / fused file or does it have to be a closed 360 scan?

I offer scanning as a service along with 3D printing. Most of my clients want scans for reverse engineering. For me personally I do a pretty wide range of things just for fun.
