The problem is the complexity of Laser Synthering printers, I am not aware of any (new) metal printers in that price range.
I'd recomend the lost-PLA-casting method for metal objects, or prototyping...

I think this is the biggest obstacle, even with 3D archives and scanning techniques. But...
MAKE also tested the pp3dp UP, and IMHO it's the overall easiest regarding hard- and software, great support structure generation, and quality is good, too!
