NASA & ASME Launch 3D Printing Challenge

NASA and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) are launching a 'Think Outside the Box' design challenge. This challenge asks K-12 students to submit designs that can be 3D printed on the 14 x 10 x 10 cm bed of the Made in Space Additive Manufacturing Facility's printer bed. But here's the catch: the object should also expand and be useful for an astronaut living in microgravity on the International Space Station. The Challenge closes August 1, 2016 and the Grand Prize for two different age categories has winners heading to Vegas to check out Bigelow Aerospace. Those are the folks who manufactured the BEAM: an expandable habitat for outer space living.
