Laika Uses 3D Printing for Puppets in New Film, Kubo and The Two Strings

The American cinema studio Laika is utilizing 3D printing technology to create puppet characters and facial expressions for their newest stop-motion film, Kubo and The Two Strings. The film will feature the character Moonbeast, voiced by Ralph Fiennes, which is a puppet entirely 3D printed from 850 individual exterior pieces, as well as an internal armature of 250 parts. In order to integrate 3D printing into their newest animated film, Laika worked closely with Stratasys’ R&D department in Israel.
