Could a Laser Beamlet 3D Printer Transform the Industry?

Mark Wendman has not yet spent a lot of time working on how to improve speed in 3D printing with metal, but in the short time he’s been conceptualizing, he’s brought some interesting ideas forth. Wendman states that while 3D printing is being used in industry, it’s not yet transforming the area still held by typical CNC metals machining due to speed and affordability issues, with 3D printing being used to make only some of the highest quality components right now. Wendman thinks that a laser beamlet 3D metals printer could be a possibility for offering greater speed with multibeam patterning architecture employing IR diode array lasers for use with metal powders currently being used in metal 3D printing.
