3D Printing Will Wean Us off of Oil, Hopefully

Consumers are feeling fearful about the rising costs of oil and the increased chunk such commodities are taking out of their paycheck. Auto manufacturers are seeking ways to be proactive in addressing these consumer concerns. Barring an unanticipated increase in oil supply, manufacturers are addressing the problem on the demand side of the equation by creating vehicles with increase fuel efficiencies. One of the most promising possibilities for decreased fuel consumption is through the reduction in weight of vehicles – fewer pounds requires less energy to move – and through experimentation with new, lightweight, 3D printed materials.
