Aerial Additive Building Manufacturing May Help Provide Disaster Shelters

Researchers are hoping that Aerial ABM (Aerial Additive Building Manufacturing) can help provide an answer to the urgent need for shelter afflicting those who live in areas ravaged by natural disaster. Possibly even before human rescuers can arrive, these researchers suggest that drones could scan the landscape, bring the information back to an offsite computer, and then be used to 3D print emergency shelters on site. This is no pie in the sky initiative either and has received a recent grant of $3.3 million to undertake efforts with industry partners to take this from a pilot study to a feasible shelter construction option.
