Help! Openbeam Kossel Pro need help getting first layer right

I am new to 3D printing. I have an Openbeam Kossel Pro that I picked up used. The hardware is fantastic but the board and software leave me scratching my head. There is also no screen to work from, command prompt only from octopi or matterhackers desktop program. There used to be a forum for this machine but it has since been taken down. I am trying to get my first layer height correct. It is about .016" to high, when the print starts it is not close enough to the bed to adhere so the head ends up dragging around a blob of filament. I have looked online and attempted the various methods of setting the first layer height but for the life of me, everything I do seems to have no effect on the printer. M851 makes no difference. Please help
