Clemson Students 3D Print a Prototyped Modification for a BMW X3

Students in the Automotive Engineering Program at Clemson University were able to thoroughly impress BMW with their prototype for a redesigned X3. Rather than using traditional steel stamping techniques which had proved to be both too costly and too slow for the project, they turned to FDM as the manufacturing method of choice. With help from Stratasys, they were able to produce the necessary parts at a cost savings of 75% and to have them ready 3 - 4 months sooner than they would have otherwise.
