Stumpy The Turtle Gets a 3D Printed Leg

It certainly seems as if 3D printing is helping to better the lives of many different types of animals. We have seen dogs, ducks, and now turtles benefit from this incredible technology. A group of 5th graders at May Howard Elementary School in Savannah, Ga, have designed and 3D printed a prosthetic leg for a 12 -year-old box turtle named Stumpy. The turtle lost her leg to infection back in September and the Oatland Island Wildlife Center turned to the school and a group of six fifth grade students to create a solution to allow the turtle to get around better. The creation is a 3D printed ball caster which allows the stump to roll freely as the other legs work.
