Anybody looking into making this sub $30 3d scanner

I have decided to give this a shot. I have ordered most of the parts & knew the cost would be a bit more than he says. I am up to $63 in parts except for the metric nuts, bolts & alum. extrusion. I will probably not start working on putting this together for another month. Maybe by then their will be better instructions on how to put this all together. I ordered some parts from Amazon & some from ebay. The nano board I opted for one that had all the pins soldered which only boosted the cost by $10.

I had looked at this on thingiverse but the scan quality didn't seem to be that good to me, so I wasn't sure if it was worth the time to build it.

Even with the commercially made scanners from makerbot and others, the quality of what you get scanned and printed is not good. I was watching a video review of one unit (Tested, I think?) and they were pretty excited that you could just barely tell the bust they printed was the same person as the original model they scanned. Cool project for research and learning if you're not counting on high end printed results.

I am not sure how well it is going to work, but did seem like something I needed to do for some reason. I think with the low cost of materials, it will get a lot of people interested in dabbling with it & maybe improving it. I am going to wait & print the plastic parts until I am ready to start working on it. This design may change some before then. I actually only spent about $50 so far, & not the $63. I had included the aluminum extrusion in that cost. I might redesign the parts that use the misumi extrusion 2020 to use openbuilds v-slot instead using openscad. I was going to look into making the Ciclop scanner mentioned in this blog, but does not seem like he has released enough info to put it together yet.

The good news is there is a lot of room for improvement and development.
