Cornell University Creates New On-the-Fly WirePrint 3D Printing System

Researchers at Cornell University have come up with an incredible way to not only make a 3D printed model, but also a physical print preview, with their new WirePrint technique, integrated into the On-the-Fly system. The delta-style printer is equipped with everything the user needs to basically make a wire outline of an object, and during the printing process they can stop or pause the machine and take time to measure, double check, or even move the model—putting it back to resume printing. The Rhino CAD software plug-in is responsible for the actual design of the model frame, as well as alerting the user when a part of a model is unprintable, allowing them to either stop printing or go with a partial print.
