DIY Smart 3D Printer Enclosure - Improve your 3D Print Quality

Hey!

Have you already seen Smart 3D printer enclosure, that you can build on your own and it's fully customize to fit your printer and your room, where you can also stack them together or upgrade later?

Why enclosure?

Well the project is divided into two parts, first is mechanical and the second electronics. On the thingiverse link here, you can find a lot of details, printable 3D parts and the main overview of the enclosure with dimensions for Prusa MK1/MK2/MK3. That is ENOUGH to recalculate your size, find suppliers and build your own. But if you'd like to chase corners, I'm also offering a ton of helping files, automatic BOM generator, BOM with links to cover the most of the world, build photos and more.

The electronics part is not absolutely necessary, but adds a function and bling to enclosure. Because this project undergo massive testing (2.5 years with almost 3000h of printing inside already!!!) there is now Electronics V2, which allows users to buy MAINBOARD, which simplify connections. Just insert the cables, upload the code and you're good to go with all the fancy features like color touch screen display, temperature and humidity monitoring in both printer and filament / room area, controlling exhaust fan -> enclosure temperature, dynamic LED modes, FIRE detection, DOOR function and more.

Mainboard also has custom I/O ports and communications, onboard DC-DC voltage regulator that comes preset, software that is editable, already compiled software for touchscreen graphics and very extensive and user-friendly manual which allows you to quickly set it up even if you're not familiar with this type of stuff. very neat - I'm running out of space for printers and am going to either have to get rid of my old pyro cupboard (probably a good idea lol) or start stacking - or both :-)
The only issue I have with the entire machine in a cupboard is that all sorts of thing get heated that I'm not sure I want heated.
Motherboards, filament, stepper motors etc.

Hey! Thanks! Well about heating, based on my almost 3000h of printing inside this enclosure with single printer, I can say it's not a problem. I always aim towards the lowest possible enclosure temperature, due to the electricity consumption, to still get unwarped and great printing quality. That usually means I'm running heatbed something like 30?C for PLA, 50?C for PETG and around 80 for ABS, which is much less than I ran with printer outside the enclosure, and I'm getting around 30-35?C inside the enclosure when temperature gets stable. With this type of temperatures I don't think electronics "wear" or die any quicker, as NOTHING died after 3000h+ of printing and maybe all that mechanical and electronics may actual like a bit warm, dry air... However, as this exact build was already made by hundredths of makers, I've seen already that people were very easily installed PSU and electronics below the printer floor and guide some wires through the hole. But as I said... I think it's not a problem at all. :)

This type of enclosure is however very nice to stack and organize one or multiple printers and also add more compartments or enclosured later. :) Easy to assemble too and very industrial, robust and lasting stuff.
