Marcus Wu Recreates Curta Type 1 Calculator with 240 3D Printed Parts

Software developer and 3D printing enthusiast Marcus Wu has recreated the classic Curta, an elegant mechanical pocket calculator that was popular from the 1940s to the 1970s. According to the Wu, the traditional Curta Type I calculator contains more than 600 individual parts, but his version contains about 240 3D printed parts and 100 non-printed parts, which include things like springs, ball bearings, nuts, and bolts. Wu has been working on the project since April 2015, as the design is extremely intricate, and each individual piece needs to be perfectly placed to ensure that the device functions properly.
