Reprapper's new filament - Copper PLA

Entering 2015, Reprapper has successfully developed a new material for FDM-based 3d printers.

Followed your link and put in an order for two (tiny) spools. Just a heads up, your checkout requires an input for "Street Address 2". I put a "?" in that field just to get past it and be able to check out.

Now the colorfabb copperfill specifically says it's not suitable for machines with a plastic feed tube through the heater block to the print head. The bronzefill is fine but not the copper.

Any idea if the reprapper filament is equally as incompatible ?

I suppose it's still something viable if one drop the feedrate, just like ninjaflex that is against bowden tube set up.

The aim of setting two "street address" is to add labels to every address field so buyers can mimic "House number" or any other field separation.

According to your feedback, our e-commerce staff has revised our site so there will be only one "street address" to fill in from now on.

In fact, this copper filament can be used for ptfe tube printer head or steel tube printer head. The copper powder is small enough to go through 0.4mm or 0.36mm nozzle. There is also a fan to blow the printer head to cool the head, so will not jam. In theory copper filament can conduct more heat energy at the same time. So during printing, it can be cooled faster and even without supporting parts, the result is good for many models. Another advantage is the supporting part can be removed easier than pure PLA.

As soon as mine hits the door, I'll be testing it out, and will give an impartial review. :)

Well, got to say that's quite an action as copper filament seems to be a rare filament that only colorfabb offers. Wondering if reprapper's copper PLA prints well.

Thanks for comment. Our copper PLA prints just as well as common PLA since its main material is PLA.

If there are no snafus at DHL, I should have my order to try out on Monday. :)

i ordered a roll as well. also going to give some of their petg a shot. i have printed almost every pet avail so this will be nice to compare.

Guess what I got? This is the first time I ever bought a 250g spool (so I bought 2). That said (and this isn't a knock on the product as no doubt ALL 250g spools are smallish), but they sure are smallish! :p

I have a test piece printing as I type this. I set it to print exactly like I print any of my other PLA, and it's looking very good. (I use 195c/60c/glass/gluestick/cooling fan after 1 layer. But... that's what works for me. We already know that everyone is different as to what works for them). Ok, the forum's uploads aren't working for beans for me. My wife gets first claim on the stuff I make, she claimed it. My daughter gets second (printing another. ;) ). The pictures almost do it justice. Up front and personal, this is some good looking PLA.

well i got my roll of copper the other day. i had to come on here to take a second look at your spool. yours is extruded right. i am posting a picture of mine. its horrible. i cant print more than 2-3 min before it jams up.

on a positive note i had a big production run of parts to be printed so i ordered 5kg of black petg and that stuff is great. nice quality, perfect extrusion. its pretty much exactly like colorfabb xt. i am already on my second roll.

Wow, that roll of copper looks like crap! I hope my 2nd roll doesn't look like that...

I'm interested in the mechanical properties of this stuff, with it having copper powder added does this make the melting point higher (thinking it might be a better thermal conductor??)? What about strength/flexibility etc?

well its copper with pla binder so temps are all the same as regular pla. the roll i have here is quite brittle. no real flexibility.

Sorry for the copper spool. I will report this to our QC department to find out the reason. I guess that's because the percentage of copper powder is high. As to this flawed spool, we will send you another spool for replacement asap.

Hot off the printer, no cleanup yet. My wife loves the things I print with this stuff. I've been printing things at .2mm layer height and not smoothing them out at all (rather just cleaning up the little threads here and there) because I like that it looks like the things are made out of copper wire. :o I could just as easily get a better finish, but for now, I'm liking this texture with this particular product...
